Today is a fantastic day for This Decay because we’re announcing our very first release. My label partner Dave Musson has been working hard on two fronts: firstly, lining up the physical and digital manifestations of our first recording; secondly writing and playing the music.
Our first band is truly a family affair. Birmingham duo WAVE – singer/guitarist Dave and drummer Will Stokes – will put out their debut EP through This Decay next month. It was recorded over two days in April by producer Chris Piper at the Quarter Audio studios in Hockley.
The First Wave (DEC-2) will be available to buy on Friday 9th September and features five terrific slices of WAVE’s unorthodox and noisy blend of metallic and punk-loaded rock. Dave and Will’s combined influences range from The Chariot and Nirvana to death metal, a broad array which is happily flecked throughout the duo’s first recorded outing.
A limited run of 25 The First Wave EP bundles is available to pre-order now from thatawesomeduowave.bandcamp.com. As well as a limited edition CD personally hand-numbered by Dave, pre-order bundle buyers will receive a WAVE patch and pin badge. That’s right – we ain’t messin’.
As an extra bonus, the second single from The First Wave will be available to download for anyone who pre-orders the EP in either the physical or digital format. ‘Celia’ (DEC-1) is also available to stream now.
To celebrate the EP’s release WAVE will play a special launch show at The Flapper in Birmingham on Friday 9th September.
